United Kingdom (Michael Hall, Forest Row, East Sussex)

Updated: 25th April 2013

Vacancy: Fundraiser
Applications by: 20th May 2013

Michael Hall is the oldest and largest Steiner Waldorf school in the UK. The school educates about 550 students aged from birth to 18 and is a registered charity turning over some £4m per annum. The school aims to be as accessible as possible to families on low incomes, and nearly a third of students receive a means-tested fee reduction reflecting the family's ability to pay.

Since 1947, Michael Hall has been based at Kidbrooke Park, a 70 acre estate in Sussex with two grade 2* historic buildings at its heart. These, together with a substantial collection of more modern school buildings including a gym and a theatre, provide a magnificent setting for the school. However, the site is expensive to run and requires continuous capital investment if it is to continue to provide excellent facilities for the school for the future.

In this context, the task of fundraising is of critical importance to the school. In recent years, with the support of a part time fundraiser, the school has raised between £30,000 and £50,000 per annum from fundraising activities. Most of this money has come from two sources: fundraising events and donations.

This will be the first time the school has sought to appoint a full-time fundraiser, and our objective is to very substantially increase the fundraising income, particularly from donations. To achieve this, our new appointee will need to have the skills to network extensively with both the current school community and with the large population of past students with whom the school is still in contact, and to communicate the school's vision for the future and why it needs financial support.

We are seeking an individual with fundraising experience (ideally in a school), who is creative, personable, energetic, committed, and capable of working with a large degree of autonomy to fill this important role.

The full time salary is ranges from £20,000 to £24,000 per annum, depending on experience.

For further information, please contact Nicola Rush - Human Resources on 01342 822275 ext 358 or by email nicola.rush@michaelhall.co.uk.
